Privacy Policy

Last updated: 29 July 2026

Dilo collects the minimum data needed to teach you Spanish. This document explains what is stored, where, and when it leaves your device.

Account information

If you create an account we store your email address and, if you provided one, your display name. We never receive your password in plain text; authentication is handled by Supabase. If you sign in with Apple we receive only your email address and basic profile information; if you use "Hide My Email" we never see your real address.

Learning data

Completed lessons, review cards, XP, streak and game scores are stored on your device first. Your wrong answers are recorded too: what you typed for a given question and what the correct answer was — your mistake log and weak-spot map are built from this. If you have an account, this data is copied to the cloud under your account so your devices stay in sync. Without an account, no learning data ever leaves your device.

Microphone

The microphone is activated only when you press the listen button in a speaking exercise. Speech recognition is performed by your device's operating system speech service (Apple on iOS, Google on Android); that service may send the audio to its own servers for recognition, and its use is governed by that company's privacy policy. No audio recording is sent to us or stored on our servers. If you deny microphone permission, speaking exercises are skipped automatically.

AI tutor

Your conversation with the tutor is processed in one of two ways. If your device supports Apple Intelligence, replies are generated by the model on your phone and your messages never leave the device. Otherwise (Android devices and older iPhones) your messages are relayed through our server to Groq, where they are processed by an open-source language model. What is sent is the chat text; your name, email and account identifier are not. Your messages are not used for model training, and our server does not store chat content. The daily message limit is counted against your account; the counter records how many messages you sent, not what you wrote. Your conversation lives in two places: on your device and — if you have an account — in the cloud under that account, like the rest of your learning data. In other words the service that generates the reply does not retain your message and our server does not record it while generating, but with sync enabled your chat history is kept under your account so it can move between devices. Deleting your account deletes that history too. If you report a reply, the text of that message is sent to us along with the report so it can be reviewed.

Analytics and advertising

Dilo contains no third-party analytics or advertising SDKs. Your behaviour is not tracked, sold, or used to build an ad profile.

Deleting your data

You can erase on-device data at any time via Settings > Reset all data. Deleting your account also permanently deletes all of your cloud learning data; this cannot be undone.

Children's privacy

Dilo is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data from them.
